Exactly One Year Ago Today…
I found out I was pregnant with the little bug!! Surprisingly for me, I didn’t take a pregnancy test when I woke up that morning; I was trying to exert a little willpower and wait a few days. I was tired of taking numerous tests each month and having them all show up negative. So I went to work (I was teaching summer school), went to the dentist, and then came home. But I sorta just had a good feeling all morning, so that afternoon I decided to abandon all traces of willpower and test anyway! I was shocked to see the faintest of lines show up! It was barely visible, but I’d done my research, and I knew that no matter how faint, a line was a line; and nothing like this had ever appeared before. So it was just me and the dogs, running through the house cheering together! I took another test to be sure, and again I got the faintest pink line!
It was going to be a few hours before Nate came home, and I knew I had to wait until he got home and tell him in person. My mom and I had already had plans to go get a pedicure. I couldn’t cancel, but I knew I couldn’t tell her the news before I told Nate. So I had to be the best actress I could be and play down my excitement. When I mentioned to her at the salon how bad the fumes in there smelled, she asked me if I’d taken a pregnancy test yet for that month. I told her I planned to take one the following morning (which was not exactly a lie as I did test again! (and again!))
So then I’m back at home waiting impatiently for Nate to get there. I kept calling him and telling him to hurry home. I told him the reason I was so anxious was because I was starving and he was bringing home food. (At the time, I was actually hungry, so again, not a complete lie, although when he did get home I was too excited to eat.) So I’m trying to think of a fun, clever way to tell him, but when he walks in, I’m standing at the front entrance, and he gives me a hug and says, “How are you,” and as we’re still hugging, I blurt out, “PREGNANT!” It took him a little while to comprehend, and then he picked me up and we cheered. Our friend Andrew was at the house, so he was the next to know. Then we drove over to my Mom’s house. When she saw me at the door, I smiled, and she said “YEAH???” and I said, “Yeah!” Then from there we called my dad and my brother. Later that night I called Amy, and the next day we went down to Coral Springs to tell the rest of my family and Nate’s family. A few days later we went on our family vacation to New Smyrna, where I told our out-of-town family. We definitely didn’t waste any time sharing the fabulous news!
So here I am today with the amazing result of that tiny pink line. Truly amazing!
