Sadie is Due!

So it’s one month later and we’ve finally made it to Sadie’s due date. She’s doing well! She’s sleeping well and crying very little. She only cries if she’s hungry or due to make a dirty diaper. Hopefully, she’ll stay this temperament. It really has been so awesome with her and we’re having lots of fun. For many years, I’ve had people warning me about how horrible the exhaustion is with a new baby. And I admit, it is exhausting, but I don’t mind it at all!

And last night, Sadie’s Aunt Rachel, who is home from FSU on spring break, spent the night to help Nate and I out. She cooked dinner, made cookies, and stayed up with Sadie until 4:30am! Sadie loves Aunt Rachel!

This morning, Nate and I took Sadie to the doctor because we were concerned that she was looking jaundice. After a traumatizing heel prick, the blood test showed that Sadie’s bilirubin is not at an unsafe level. The doctor assured us that Sadie just has a “natural surfer tan.”

The doctor did, however, send us home with some formula to start supplementing the breastmilk with to try and fatten Sadie up. She’s at 6 pounds exactly, which puts her in the 3rd percentile. She is teeny tiny! Unfortunately, she is hating the formula. She will not swallow it and it ends up all over her neck, chest, back, etc. We’ll keep trying it, but I hope we won’t have to keep it up for long. We’ll go back to the doctor in a week to check her weight gain.

This afternoon, Sadie met up with her best friend for the first time since the hospital. She and Lola went to the school Amy and I work at to meet the coworkers. Sadly, we hid the babies from the students because we’re not ready for them to be around kids yet; but it was nice to see everyone else. Unfortunately, as you can see from the picture, Sadie was too worn out after her doctor appointment today (she also got her first shot!) to really enjoy her friend's company.
