ChatterBug!

Sadie has become such a chatty little bug. She has soo much to say lately! And although for the most part, the language she speaks is all her own, she is acquiring a few words from the English language.

Hey/Hi: This word came first. (It’s actually a hybrid of the two.) She uses it to greet strangers while we shop or to get someone’s attention.

Yay!: This word is accompanied by excited clapping.

Dada/Daddy: This word addresses both Daddy and Mommy. If we walk away from her, she’ll follow us and desperately yell this out!

Sitty: Sadie first started telling me about her Sitty (grandmother) about a week ago, after she spent the evening with her. Since then, Sadie calls out for Sitty when she walks away, and she cries for her even when Sitty’s not there but Sadie wants someone to rescue her. For example, when Nate or I, are trying to put Sadie to sleep and she’s crying and fighting it, she’ll be asking for “Sitty.”

Kisses: I mentioned in a previous post how I always say “kisses” after I give Sadie a kiss so that she learns the word. My intention was so that I could say, “Give me kisses,” and she’d know what I was asking her to do. So I wasn’t at all expecting her to say it too. So when after she’d kiss my check, and she’d then say “kisses,” it took me a little while to realize it. For awhile, I’d say, “Kittens? You like kitty cats?” even though I know we never talk about kittens in our house. (We’re dog people.) Anyway, when it finally clicked for me, I was so surprised and excited! (And I also felt a little dumb for all the kitten talk!)

Yum!: After I put a spoonful of food in Sadie’s mouth, I always look at her and say, “Yum!” I was not expecting to hear her start doing it too. But she does. She swallows, then smiles at me and says, “Yum!”

I’m sure there are more things she’s saying that I can’t quite decipher yet, but I’ll figure them out soon enough! And I’m still waiting anxiously for her to say Mama/Mommy. Until then, I just have to settle for being called Daddy…
