More Words...

About two weeks ago I posted a list of Sadie's new words. Here are a few more...

Mama/Mommy: Yay! She finally says it! Granted, I still spend a good deal of time being called “Daddy,” but when it’s really important, I become Mama again. For example, if I walk away and she can’t see me, she yells Mama. Or right before she’s about to throw her arms around me for a hug, she’ll call me Mama!

Bye-Bye!: When I taught Sadie how to wave a few months ago, I only taught her to wave hello. But she’s now figured out that she’s supposed to wave goodbye too, since everybody does it to her. Also, when I taught her to wave, I taught her to do it the way I do, with her palm open and moving from side to side. But it seems the vast majority of people wave with their hand still and their fingers opening and closing in to a fist. Sadie has determined that the world’s way is more fun than Mommy’s, so she’s now really excited that not only has she’s mastered this new kind of waving, but she can say bye-bye too!

Night-Night!: When Sadie says, “night-night!” it’s certainly not a sweet, happy, goodnight Mommy, type of sentiment. Before every nap and bedtime, we have the same routine. I shut the lights, turn on her white noise machine, and start the classical music. Then I put her in her crib and say, “I love you. Go night-night.” Or when I notice she’s looking tired, I ask her if she wants to go night-night and I carry her upstairs. Well, she’s now learned the signs, and as soon as I shut the light and turn on that classical music, she starts crying and screaming out “night, night!!” This is her way of saying, “I know what you’re trying to do, and I’m going to fight you on it!”
